Formux Lab is an educational studio. Everything we publish — the course, the ebook, the worksheets and the free Chalk Talks — exists to help you understand the mathematics behind how game systems behave. This page sets out the spirit in which to take it.
For learning, not guarantees
The material teaches concepts: expected value, randomness in software, drop rates, variance and how to balance a reward table. It shows you how to reason about a system and defend your choices with a number. It does not promise a particular result in your own project, a grade, a job, or that any design you make will perform a certain way. Real games have real players, and no course can guarantee an outcome.
About game systems, not games of chance for money
This is important, so we'll say it plainly. Formux Lab is about the design of video-game systems — reward tables, progression, randomised loot in games that people play for fun. It is not about, and does not teach or promote, activities where money rides on a result. Our examples use in-game items and points, never cash outcomes. If you arrived expecting anything to do with money riding on chance, this isn't that, and never will be.
Accuracy
We take care to keep the math correct and the examples honest, and we update lessons when we can make them clearer. Even so, we can't promise every page is free of error or fully current at every moment. Treat the material as a strong starting point, and check anything critical against your own project's real data before you ship it.
